UE4 - Fur on Characters

Smudgy67 7 years ago updated by Mike Rooney 4 months ago 3

Hey there,

I have 12 characters that I would like to have different fur on. So I 'd like to get the first one right.

I followed your tutorial about the fur on the bear (most impressive, thank you). The results I got were not so great though. It ended with two characters, the original placed one and the shell one, who was positioned above the original character and at right angles to. Why two characters?

I'd like to be able to control these characters (thirdPersonMesh) also,

Could you help, please?

Sorry for the delayed response. This is a pretty tough thing to work out without seeing the asset, and it's likely due to some transform/data on the skeleton or rig of the asset. Does it animate properly along with the base mesh? Do you have any rotation/translation on the component directly?

Smudgy67 - when you first add on the neofur thing you need to ZERO out the rotation and translation. For some reason Neofur generally pops in offset vertically and rotated 90 degrees. Just click on the Neofur thing and reset translation and rotation to 0.

After that it's all generally pretty easy. I generally think most results are better the shorter you go with fur btw. 2-3 inches is ideal, things get progressively less realistic the more you go over that unless you jam in a million shells, and those are expensive. 10 shells is what I prefer if possible, 15-20 if something really needs length.

It is such an interesting and informative post, thank you for sharing the post.Maya Stern Leather Jacket Fool Me Once
